FURTHER DETAILS:
Vila Marachique Complex is the highest and
coolest place in the whole area. Just 1,5 km down the road is Alvor
village. A bus stops outside the complex or a cheap taxi ordered at
reception. Going the other way Portimao the local "capital" 5 km away
has the best shops in town 2 Commercial Centres 2 cinemas a grand
promenade a new prestigious marina and any number of restaurants.
Portimao once the Sardine capital of Europe continues to celebrate this
each summer with a week long Sardine Festival. Praia da Rocha next door
has a very vibrant night life helped by the many street stalls selling
well nearly everything . It is always full. A 5 min walk from the
apartment takes you to the Alto Golf course and Club House and 4-5 other
top golf courses are within a 20min drive.
Vila Marachique has many close by restaurants. Xico and Por do Sol are
next door, Estrella do Vau, Kottemisse ,Hof van Holland, Vau Costa are a
little further away while Miss Pasta and Busio deserve special mention.
Portuguese cooking is excellent without being complex while Portuguese
wine is the best value in Europe. There are 6 beaches in the vicinity
all blue flagged. The 3 largest all have the modern facilities of
deckchairs parasols and restaurants. Praia da Rocha an enormous expanse
of sand has a wide wooden promenade. Praia do Vau more secluded leads on
to the magic coves and rocks of Joao Arens, Prainha and Tres Irmaos and
finally the miles and miles of sand and dunes of Praia do Alvor. These
beaches are some of the most photographed in Europe.
